What nobody tells you about Kerala
A "full day houseboat cruise" is about six hours. Kettuvallams are required to moor by around 5:30pm and cannot move again until morning, so the sunset you were promised is from a stationary boat in a canal. Book an overnight if you want the real experience — and pick Kumarakom over Alappuzha if you want quiet water.
Who should skip Kerala
Skip Kerala if you want a fast sightseeing itinerary. It is a slow state and fighting that is the only way to have a bad time here.
